Stacy Compton
Hometown: Grit, VA
Born: May 26, 1967
Stacy Compton was raised in Grit, VA and still resides in the area with his wife and their daughter. He is a NASCAR driver, land developer, owner of two late model cars and most recently added lead analyst for ESPN to his resume.
As a child, Stacy frequently water skied and fished the waters of Leesville Lake. He enjoyed the tranquility and privacy of this beautiful lake with family and friends. Stacy also got his first taste of racing in his home town, racing go-karts at an early age. He then focused on racing late models in local racing divisions. Eventually, he moved up to NASCAR Winston Racing Series, where he won 36 races during the seven years of his late model racing. During this time, Stacy also hosted a TV show dedicated to covering Virginia races.
In 1996, Stacy made his debut in the Winston Cup Series for the Goody’s Headache Powder 500 at the Martinsville Speedway in Virginia, qualified 9th and finished 33rd after having brake issues. From his first debut in 1996 to 2003, Stacy raced in 88 Winston Cup races.
Stacy signed with Impact Motorsports in 1997 to race the #86 Valvoline Ford F-150 Truck in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS). In 1998, he won his first race in the NCTS at the Craftsman 200 by NAPA Auto Parts (Portland). In that same year, he won the Lund Look 275K at Heartland Park Topeka (Kansas), had nine top five finishes and fourteen top ten finishes, he finished seventh in points for the year, and was named the 1998 Craftsman Truck Series Most Popular Driver. Stacy has continued to race in the NCTS since entering the series in 1997.
In 2001, Stacy signed with ST Motorsports to race the #59 Kingsford Car in the Busch Series. Since his start in the Busch Series, he has raced in 173 races.
Stacy adventured out on another interest closer to home in 2000. He purchased Ray’s Marina on Leesville Lake and renamed it Stacy Compton’s Pit Stop Marina, which became a favorite local destination. Shortly thereafter, the property behind the marina was offered for sale. Stacy was certain that the property was a good investment and would be a fabulous location for a lake community. The land was purchased and the Leesville Lake Waterfront Community, Heron Pointe was developed.
Stacy takes every opportunity he gets to help others and to give back to the community. In 2006, Stacy accepted the honorary chairman position for the 2006 Race to Cub Scouting Campaign for the Blue Ridge Mountains Council. He participated in a go-kart race with local Sports News Reporter, Dennis Carter, and anyone else that wanted to go up against the NASCAR driver. The proceeds went to MDA. Stacy also owns a pair of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Late Model Stock Cars called Turn One Racing. It supports and advances the careers of two area drivers on the tracks where Stacy grew up, South Boston and the Motor Mile Speedway.
In 2007, Stacy signed with ESPN as the lead analyst on the “NASCAR Now” show and also appears on “RaceDay” shows. He has also signed with Wood Brothers/JTG Motorsports to race an abbreviated NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for the 2007 race season.
